Reunited with Epona

Take the path up to Death Mountain and climb up the net. You’ll fall into an impromptu meeting with a Goron. You don’t stand a chance as he’s going to knock you off the cliff. Time to rethink your strategy so backtrack until a local man from Kakariko will stop you. The man tells you to head back to Ordon Village, which is cool with you because you get your horse back. She must be excited to see you because she is really excited and rambunctious. Calm the old girl down by holding the stick as directed on screen and seizing her by pressing the A button. Go back through Hyrule Fields and Faron Woods on your way to your old stomping grounds. When you get back to town, you’re going to want to meet with the mayor near the ranch you work. The mayor is a sumo guru and will teach you his new way. It seems the Gorons are susceptible to the sumo technique. After the mayor teaches you the goods, open the chest in his house to get the Iron Boots.

Go back towards Kakariko Village and leap over the gate with your horse to enter. You are greeted by all the kids being attacked by a large goon. Cross the village and jump the gate in the opposite direction you just came. He’s going to want to run and to defeat him, ride after him with your horse. When you get near him, slash him until he loses his armor. His equally evil friends can be thwarted off by using the spin attack. The epic struggle continues on the bridge. As he rams into you, run towards the side in his direction and move out of the way at the last second. As you go by him slash him. Two good slashes should send this big bully into fits.

1. Death Mountain

Forget what you’ve read in the travel guides about Death Mountain, this is no vacation spot. Head to the Village of Kakariko and proceed on to Death Mountain. Climb up the net from before and then put on your Iron Boots. The Goron notices something different about you. As the Goron rolls towards you, use the sumo technique and he will fly off the cliff. Proceed up the path, continually wiping out Gorons on your way. As you approach the geysers, avoid the arrows and scurry to the larger area with the two Gorons. Avoid the falling boulders as you drop down and approach one of the Gorons. A quick slash of the sword will send this Goron into boulder form. Climb on his back and he’ll throw you to the area above.

In the area above, head right and you’ll see another Goron in the back. Use this Goron the same as you did his friend earlier and swipe him to turn into a boulder. Jump to the area above and turn a third Goron into a boulder to reach the above ledge. Strap up your Iron Boots in order to cross the geysers and follow the ledge to the left. As Gorons come down the path at you, use the sumo technique to make mince meat of them. Proceed up the mountain using the rolled up Goron trick to your advantage until you reach the summit. Go inside the mountain where you’ll be introduced to a Goron elder. His way of meeting new people is challenging them to a sumo match. Put on your Iron Boots and beat him in order to access the Goron Mines.

2. Goron Mines

As you enter the mines, be careful to avoid the fire jets as you jump the lava pit. After you’ve cleared the pit, go to the left and break through the wooden barriers. Put on your Iron Boots and stand on the switch to the left; this stops the flame in the path ahead. Before the flame returns, quickly dash through and look to the left and press another switch. Go around the corner on the metal platform and climb the latter at the end to reach the path above. Sprint to the end of this path and on another platform you’ll find a chest that contains a Red Rupee.

Now you must back track and look for a rock pillar on the left. Jump onto the rock pillar and you’ll reach the ledge on the side of the wall. Cruise along this ledge and you’ll find another switch. This time, use your Iron Boots to press the switch. Now head back the ledge but on the opposite side as before. Pressing the switch stopped the flame so now you can go through the path and onto the metal pillar to the right of the huge gate at the end of the path. Use the Iron Boots to lower the pillar and in the process the gate will open.

3.
Go through the gate way and proceed to the next room. Head down the walkway to your left and you’ll find a chest that contains a small key. Grab the key and head back the way you came and jump across the rotating platforms. After you clear the platforms, use the key to unlock the door on the right. Enter through the door and run down the path. Jump the platforms over the lava until you reach a grated wall. You’ll notice a tall rectangular block in the middle of the wall with a large chain dangling. Attack the lizard’s tail to kill him first. Now pick up the chain and pull towards you, moving the block and opening up a path. Pull the block all the way to the end of the tracks and jump the platforms back to the other side of the wall. There is a door on the other side that you have to reach before the wall sets back in place.

If you made it through the door, put on your Iron Boots and jump into the drink. You’ll sink to the bottom of the water. Walk ahead and press the switch in order to be lifted above to the ceiling. Walk onto the magnet to get back oriented and proceed through the door ahead of you. In this room, a Goron elder will be hanging out. He gives you a key shard but you’ll need two other pieces to complete the key. There are two chests in the room you should open before leaving. The one in the back of the room contains a map and the chest on the left has a red rupee inside. Climb up the ladder to the top ledge of the room. Go through this door and you’ll be in the previous room.

4.
There are blue magnetic walls on the side of this room that you must use your Iron Boots to access. Walk towards the door on the other side and enter through. You’ll need to walk up to the switch in the other room to be sent to the ceiling. Walk along to find a chest in the northwest corner. Open the chest and you’ll obtain a heart piece. Walk to the opposite corner and proceed along the path until you see the two torches on adjacent walls. Drop down and walk through the door to access the fire room or Goron sauna. Walk to the switch and press it while wearing the Iron Boots, thus moving the crane that has a magnet. Head for the platform, still wearing your boots, and wait for the magnet to hover over you. The crane will pick you up and move you to another platform. Hit the switch here and the other crane will move, picking you up and taking you to a door. Go through the door. Hope you didn’t have any floppy discs on you because they probably got erased with all the magnet shenanigans.

5.
In this room, jump into the water and your Iron Boots will sink you to the bottom. There is a chest on the left where you can grab a small key. Walk over to the big cage on the right side and enter it, taking you to the surface. Stand on this switch with your boots to activate a magnet that will pull you off the ceiling. Walk to the ledge nearby and press the switch and another magnet is activated. Drop towards the magnets range to get pulled to it. Walk along the wall and there will be a platform with a chest. Inside this chest you will find a red rupee and a blue diamond switch. Slashing the switch opens the gate below. Jump to it quickly and head to the other room before the gate shuts.

Walk along the wall to the left with the magnets. There is a chest at the top of the wall containing a heart piece. Walk up the wall on the right to reach the ledge. Slash the rope holding the gate and a door will be revealed. Use the key to open the door and enter the next area. Crush through the wooden barrier and follow the path to an open space to the right. There is a chest hidden in the corner that contains a small key. Head back on the wooden path and open the door with the key. Jump the platforms to cross this room, using your boots on the second one. Go through the door on the other side and you will obtain the second key shard from a Goron elder. Open the chest and grab the yellow rupee before you climb the ladder and go through the door. In the next area, use your boots to walk along the wall until you drop to the wooden platform below. There is action through this door.

6.
Walk to the arena in the center and lace up the Iron Boots. Hold your shield and wait for the critter to raise his arms. As he raises his arms, slash his stomach as many times as you can and he’ll roll into the fetal position. Pick him up and throw him into the simmering lava. He’ll come back for more but do this same process two more times and you will be the victor. After winning the fight, exit through the other door and open up the big chest in the room to reveal the Hero’s Bow. Might as well break the new toy in by aiming the bow at the rope holding the bridge, subsequently hitting it and lowering it so you may cross.

In the next room, there are several statues that aren’t huge fans of yours. They will fire at you and you must shoot an arrow at the red eye on their front to stop them. Stop them all and pull the statue farthest west towards you to reveal a chest with a compass inside. Pull out the statue to the east and you will find a door. The Goron elder is there to give you the last key shard. Before you head back to the statue room, open the chest on the ledge to acquire a purple rupee. In the statue room, exit through the door to the far north behind the statues.

7.
Follow the path up to a grate blocking the way and roll into it a couple times to knock it down. Before crossing, shoot down the insects hanging from a stalactite on the ceiling. Jump across the platforms to reach the other side. Use the boots to step on the switch at the end of the path, activating another magnet. Walk along the ceiling until you encounter a hole in the right wall. Shoot the blue diamond switch with your bow and the gate below will open. Drop down and proceed through the door.

As you enter the next room, head right and open the chest to acquire a purple rupee. Go left and aim the bow at the rope holding the bridge, hitting it and lowering it to cross. After crossing the bridge, hit the switch with the iron boots to stick to the crane. Let the crane carry you to the end and drop down. Head through the door and jump across the platforms over the water in the next room. Shoot the blue diamond switch from far away with your bow and the gate will open. Proceed through the gate and quickly head to the next room and go through the door at the back of the room. You now find yourself in the outside area.

8.
With the heroes bow, you are on a level playing field with the archers all around the area. Shoot them down to shut them up. Go back to the clear area and find the chest with the key from earlier. Shoot at the red eye of the statue to shut it up. Pull the statue to reveal a passageway to enter. Run ahead and attack the archers that lie in wait. At the end of the path, use the iron boots to step on the switch and activate the magnet. While being pulled by the magnet, shoot down the bridge by hitting the rope with your bow. Drop down onto the bridge and proceed through the door, shooting down the archers as you enter the room. Go down the ramp on the right side and lower the big bridge by shooting the ropes. Defeat the bad guys and continue onwards, unlocking the door to the boss.

Shoot the pink glow on the monsters forehead to render him disoriented. Activate the Iron Boots and grab a chain to make him fall down. Ground and pound him to the head as he lies on the floor. Strike him as many times as you can and as he stands up again wait for the mysterious pink glow to reappear. Equip the Heroes Bow and shoot the glow. Now repeat pulling the chain and slashing his head. An additional cycle through will win the fight and free the Goron. For your efforts, you will receive another Fused Shadow and a heart container. Unless you are thinking about fixing up the place, head out of the dungeon.

9. Zora
You will now find yourself at the Kakariko spring. Head over to Barnes Bomb and purchase the premium bag with the bombs for 120 rupees. Grandfather once said you can never have too many bombs. The Malo Mart at the other end of the village has a sale on the Mylian Shield for only 200 rupees if you are interested. If you find yourself a little short, check the houses in the village for chests containing additional rupees, the owners don’t mind. Call for your trusty horse Epona and go back to Hyrule Fields. On your way, the postman will stop you yet again but this time will give you a letter. Continue on your way across the bridge and throw a bomb at the boulders that block your way. After the cut scene, head to the bridge. Use the spin attack to thwart the shadow creatures as you head on the path. Dismount your horse at the end and walk up to the Twilight Realm.

Carry on and notice the purse dropped on the ground. Use your senses to smell the purse and you realize it is Ilia’s scent. In sense mode, follow the trail. As you hunt the scent, notice the Castle Hyrule which will eventually be the destination. At the end of the trail, head into Telma’s bar and watch the cut scene, listening to Telma and Ilia. Use the map to leave Hyrule Town and target the Great Bridge of Hylia. You can try to cross it but will be attacked and forced to evacuate. Hey look, push that crate next to you into the water and jump the chasm; falling into Lake Hylia.

10. Swim on to the shore and proceed due north. Using your senses, you spot a spirit outside his house and talk to him. As you and the spirit are chit chatting, a monster appears ahead that you run after. As you approach the monster, a bird swoops out and tries to attack you. Wait for this pesky bird to fly down and press A to engage him. Hit A repetitively to bite the bird. Eventually, Sedna will get on the bird and you will be carried along, hence controlling the bird. As you are steering the bird, avoid the obstacles and cross the cave until you reach an opening at the top of the wall. This will place you in Zora’s River.

The river is dried up so jump into it and run to Zora’s Domain. When you get to the ice pillars, use Midna to jump on them and reach a higher spot. As you head up the ledge, avoid the falling icicles and use Midna to jump onto the small ice platforms. There is an ice cave to enter and three shadow creatures are eager to meet you. Defeat the creatures and use your senses to spot Zoras that are frozen below in the ice. Warp to Death Mountain and scope out the fire boulder. Go back to Zora’s Domain and listen to Rutela. Head back outside and follow the river to Lake Hylia. You must have a plan cooking up.
Go through the door on the left and dive down to reach the chest. This chest contains a red rupee to add to your collection. Now go behind the waterwheel and proceed through the door on the right. In the large room, drop down to the platforms below. Use the clawshot to enter through the door by latching on to one of the moving cogs. Jump into the water in the next room after putting on the Iron Boots. Blow up the boulder in the corner, either with a water bomb or a spiked enemy in the area.
Now swim through the tunnel and dive down to reach the boulder to the right. Blow this sucker up and swim through the tunnel so that you resurface on the other side of the room. After going through the door, get out your clawshot and aim at the target on the ceiling. This opens a trap door for you to drop into to acquire a big key. Make your way back to the rotating stairway room and pull the chain at the top for rotation. Go down the stairs and proceed through the door at the bottom. You are now at the room with the moving platforms.
